I haven’t been the most quiet critic of The Walking Dead, having professed my frustrations with the series for two reasons: Firstly, that a lot of the characters get hit by the stupid stick once plot demands it, and secondly, that most supporters of the series really need to see how good storytelling works in the TWD universe by playing Telltale Games‘ superlative The Walking Dead (they just had their latest game, The Wolf Among Us released, and yes, it’s also amazing) … it did get to a point where I’d rather replay the game than watch the show. That said, season 3 was a marked improvement over season 2, and given the general online ratings it looks like new showrunner Scott M Gimple (of FlashForward and Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance fame) might be onto something here. We’ll have to see about that.
For those who need a little catching up, here’s a little synopsis courtesy of FOX:
In the months since the third season drew to a close and fans were left reeling from the bloodbath that claimed the lives of many of the show’s original cast members, theories and questions have been spiraling and taking seed; will the prison community survive without Rick’s leadership? What does The Governor have planned for his revenge on Rick and his group of survivors? These questions will finally be answered in the premiere episode of the fourth season, directed by horror veteran Greg Nicotero. Set in and around the prison, prepare to be thrown into a world where there are more walkers than humans and are a threat like never before. Viewers will discover what happens to Rick as he fights to return to the man he once was while Daryl struggles with the loss of his brother and is also presented with the opportunity to be a leader. There will also be a number of new faces, some of whom will be familiar to fans of the graphic novels.
