Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters animated series hits Netflix Dec 23

Director Guillermo del Toro might be best known for his fantastical creatures and films filled with amazing special effects, but his latest project, Trollhunters, is going to be more kid-friendly. And it’ll be out just in time for Christmas, on Dec 23!
Trollhunters tells the tale of Jim Lake Jr, who stumbles upon a mystical amulet – leading him to discover a secret world of trolls hidden under (the bridge?) the small town of Arcadia. The mantle of Trollhunter is thrust upon Jim, who has to now protect good trolls from the evil ones. Accompanied by his close friends and some new troll allies, the fifteen-year-old must juggle school and saving the world.
While it’s not quite Doug Jones in makeup, Trollhunters still looks fantastic, especially with the quintessential Del Toro touch on the troll design. There’s tons of voice talent too, including Kelsey Grammer (Frasier), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) and Charlie Saxton (Betas). Executive producers Marc Guggenheim (Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow) and Rodrigo Blaas (Alma) are also involved.

The release date – Dec 23, 3.01pm Singapore time – was announced at the recent New York Comic Con, where Del Toro showed off the first episode. That’s not all: Ron Perlman led the crowd to wish Del Toro happy birthday!

Yep, he celebrates it on October 9 – feel free to send him wishes on Twitter at @RealGDT!

(We’re also guessing this has nothing to do with that badass Troll Hunter movie.)
