Minis Week in Review: May 29th

On the Privateer end, this week sees the spoilering of quite a few stats. GW also has some pretty substantial releases with the countdown to the release of Warhammer 8th, as well as the release of the spearhead formation rules.

Biggest news for PP is the accidental release of our main merc man Mcbain. We’ve had his feat and abilities mentioned before but here he is in all his glory (under the cut).

Caveat: I’m not sure how exact these (and subsequent) spoilers are at this moment, but there hasn’t seemed to be any crazy backlash so I guess they’re pretty accurate. Sorry that I couldn’t find the Sentry stats, but iirc they’ll be out in the next NQ so don’t worry.

Drake McBain

SPD: one more than magnus
Str: one more than magnus
Mat: one less than magnus
Rat: same as magnus
Def: one more than magnus
Arm: two less than magnus
Focus: same as magnus
WJ Points: same as magnus

Undertaker (Reach, magical, grievous wounds)

Special Rules
Tough, Gang fighter, Unyielding

True grit: Choose a number of friendly non-warcaster Faction warrior models currently in MacBainʼs control area up to the number of focus points on him +5. When a chosen model is disabled, it heals 1 damage point and is knocked down. True Grit lasts for one round.

Energizer, Fail safe, Fortune, Jackhammer, Rift, Countermeasures
Countermeasures: Target friendly faction model/unit. When a model is within 5″ of friendly faction model/unit, that model cannot make ranged attacks.

This was spoiled in the merc forums, and I think he’s pretty good. I don’t know if he’s crazy awesome (he seems to be pretty weak until he gets into combat with some buddies) but he definitely plays to the whole ‘action hero’ theme.

We also got some stats for the Bomber, which is also in the next NQ.

Diretroll Blitzer

PC: Blitzer
Statline: Blitzer

Special Rules
Snacking, Regeneration

2 p+s blitzer fists
Bombs: Impaler range, Winterguard Mortar POW and AOE, ROF 2

Grants a model girded.

I want him SO much. He’s given the trolls a reliable AOE attack, at ROF 2 no less! And at fury 4, he’s definitely the pyre troll’s new bigger, badder brother.

Another Trollbloods statline was leaked in the Runeshaper. We’ve got less info on him, but we seem to have the more important info available.

Trollblood Rune Shaper

*Action: Harmonious Exaltation (like the Hierophant)
*Action: Power Glyphs. Once per game, cast a spell 3 cost or less like a Skarlock

Harmonious exaltation is useful, but I’m not sure if I’m happy with the Runeshaper. While free fury is always good, the Squire and the Skarlock just still feel so much better.

The bacon-tastic cherry on top of this most awesome fudge sundae of info is the preview of the new minion’s War Hog.

The War Hog looks like an absolute Frankensteinian monstrosity, which seems to work with the Farrow. Apparently they’re like crazy pigmen that like civilization and technology but for some reason can’t seem to grasp the finer intricacies, resulting in the frightening behemoth you see above. I can see enterprising Cryxian necrotechs subverting this giant walking slab of bacon to their own nefarious ends.

Privateer Press also had a lot of cool stuff glimpsed for Blasted Heath and the Privateer Press Invitational, but I’ll be talking about them tomorrow. There’s just too much awesomeness this week to be contained in one post. 🙂

Games Workshop has had their own slew of releases this week. We start with our countdown of Warhammer Fantasy 8th Ed, releasing in just slightly more than 2 weeks.

We’ve also got some more River Trolls info, to go hand in hand with the release of the wonderful plastic kit. We’ve got army building tips for the Orcs and Goblins, and also some great assembling and painting step-by-steps.

On the 40k end GW has released some info on the new Spearhead expansion, in particular some of the formations that commanders can use. You’ll have to register to be able to view the info, but hey, why not? More info will also be released in this month’s White Dwarf, and you’ll be able to see some more close ups of the new tanks that will be released soon.

There also looks to be the return of GW tournaments what with the Throne of Skulls announced. I’m not sure how this will affect the overseas tournament scene, since apparently tournaments have been run by the community for a while, but I doubt that will be changing in Singapore. To be honest, what really drew my attention was that Dreadnought model. I think it’s close to a meter tall and FRIKKIN HUGE!

That’s it for this week, tune in tomorrow for some of the awesome stuff PP’s been doing that are specific to tournaments, leagues and the like. Also, tune in next week for more new release info from PP and GW!
