Minis Week in Review: Jan 23

Is Privateer Press and Games Workshop trying to outdo each other? We’ve got the releases for new Space Marines, Space Wolves and Blood Angels on the GW front, but not to be outdone we’ve also got some previews/spoilers for new epic Warlocks, as well as the Retribution Battle Engine all swank and painted up!

We start off with some lolz, though. Gabe from Penny-Arcade seems to have started a new army… a Legion of Everblight one to match his Protectorate of Menoth. I know that they’ve been brought down a few pegs during the Mk2 rebalancing, but having played Legion and Menoth, I know what his opponent feels like. I doubt that any geek doesn’t know the comic duo’s existence, but hey if you don’t you’re really missing out. Go check out their stuff. Like NOW.

On a slightly more somber note, the floods in Australia have been problematic for everyone, even us gamers. But the guys at Lost Hemisphere are pitching in to help, and this is what you can do too!

Lost Hemisphere’s got a multitude of donations going, from silent auctions to Templecon and even online donations. If you can’t get to the events, just click on the paypal button. Even better, you might even stand to win something, if you even need an excuse to donate! But for those who can be there to make a difference, what better reason for gaming than charity? If you’re a gamer in Australia, sign up in one of the FloodWar events, and definitely see what’s going on in Templecon if you’re there.

On the PP side, we’ve got one big reveal, as well as some sneaks. First up: the Arcantrik Force Generator! As a Retribution Battle Engine, we can only imagine that it will be doing something force and pew-pew related. An update though… both the Arcantrik Force Generator and the Khador Gun Carriage seem to have moulded arc lines in their base which does imply that their shooting or LOS will probably be related to those LOS quarters. The Force Generator DOES have a nice technorganic feel to it though, with it really channeling the insect look there.

Continuing with Battle Engines, Bell of Lost Souls had a lo-res scan of the Cryx Wraith Engine, from some trade magazine or other. It looks like a POSITIVE TERROR. With all the dead infantry about it, and the soul draining we can definitely assume that it will be the most melee-centric of the bunch.

A slightly smaller sneak came a few days back, with the PP Insider mentioning that the new Hordes book would be called Domination. In addition, we find out that Domination will have 2 new locks per faction; an epic as well as a new Warlock. The Epics fill out the basic 3 warlocks that were in Primal (So that means Grissel, Hexeris, Baldur and Vayl), but as to what the new faction warlocks are, that’s anybody’s guess. I wonder what the Trollblood’s warlock will be. Or for that matter any of the factions…

Of course, not to be outdone Games Workshops has a lot of Marine releases this week. The big ones are of course the Storm Raven and Blood Angels dreadnought set, but Space Wolves and Marines aren’t exactly left out to dry either.

Like most, I’m not exactly a fan of the Storm Raven (there’re much more awesome kitbashes out there), but I suppose for an easy and relatively cheap option that’s a good way to go. I’m MUCH more interested in the dreadnought. Lots of detail, loads of killy! I’m undecided between getting one for Blood Angels or destroying one for an Ork Deff Dread. Those claws are definitely looking very exciting.

So guys, anyone need to sell any blood to fund this week’s purchases? 😉
