We’ve been talking a lot about miniature wargaming, specifically Warmachine and Warhammer. However, I think we’d like to think of ourselves as all-round geeks and gamers, not partial to one specific genre of games but more than willing to partake of the vast range of games available.
And what would be a larger testament to that than Singapore’s very own gaming convention?
Sporecon (or Sp’oreCon or Singapore Con, but I think Spore has a better ring to it don’t you think?) is a small gaming convention that’s into it’s third year. Co-Organized by Paradigm Infinitum and the People’s Association, this year Sporecon will be held in about a week at:
Pasir Ris East Community Centre
11am – 6pm
Of course there’ll be miniature wargaming aplenty, with the HereBeGeeks group out in full force to run mini events (like tourneys and demos), but you can be sure that when we have time, we will be out taking photos or just enjoying 2 days of gaming.
And what a weekend it will be. There are the card and mini tournaments for the big gamers, but that’s not what Sporecon is all about. More importantly, Sporecon also has tables where the layperson can walk in and try their hand at a miniature game or board game (something other than Risk anyway).
We want to give back to the community. We want to see the kid (or teenager, or hell even ah mah) sit down at a board game table and realise that dice aren’t just for gambling. We want them to see a role playing game or war game and realise that that sitting at a table doesn’t limit your vista of imagination. We want them to pick up an unpainted miniature and realise that the miniature can be as beautiful as the work they put into it. And most importantly, we want them to have fun.
SPORECON: Have fun, play games. See you there.
