gamescom asia 2022 – What’s in store for you

gamescom asia will be happening from the 20th to 22nd October 2022 in Singapore and HBG sat in for a closed-door virtual Media Day to find out what will be happening at the event.

The only satellite event of the world’s largest video games festival, gamescom, gamescom asia will be held at the Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre where trade visitors can check out a physical Trade Zone and connect with others during the Trade Conference. Over 3,000 trade attendees (on-site & online) are expected with over 80 exhibiting companies and brands at the Trade Zone where there will be showcases of upcoming games, both big-budget and indie as well as opportunities for attendees to network with brands and trade associations from South East Asia.

For the public side, gamescom asia has arranged for two virtual shows, PRIMETIME and STUDIO, where games-related companies will showcase their content to audiences worldwide on YouTube, Facebook & Twitch. gamescom asia will also have a special Steam event page available during the event week where all the games featured will be showcased and you can demo, wishlist & get special offers on them!

During the virtual Media Day, we also got to hear from speakers such as Brian Kwek representing the Singapore Games Association (SGGA) where he spoke about the association’s work with indie developers and the importance of indies in the game development ecosystem as well as insights into how indie developers should widen their networks in order to amplify the reach of their work.

We also heard from Ricardo Rodrigues from Meta0, Derrick Sim from Scopely SEA and Rhea Ram from MYTONA who gave insights on how game development has expanded in the region and how their companies are getting engaged in South East Asia.

Timothy Bender (CEO) of Hooded Horse also shared their latest game, Against the Storm, which will launch November 1st – a fantasy roguelite city builder game with Lizards, Beavers, Harpies, and Humans disrupting the players’ efforts. Stay tuned on HBG for an early look and review of the game!

For those who are interested, bookmark your calendar and tune in for a livestream on 20th October where we will explore the physical Trade Zone and speak to some of the various publishers, developers and attendees at gamescom asia.
