Ascend The Wall: The Game Of Thrones VR experience comes to Singapore

100 leagues long – 300 miles – and over 700 feet tall, The Wall is a an imposing part of the Game Of Thrones saga. Now fans of the series will be able step into Jon Snow’s boots*, or even wield Arya Stark’s Needle … and maybe even claim the Iron Throne for themselves as part of the Game Of Thrones: Worlds Of Westeros, a virtual reality experience.

From Apr 2 to 7 at ION Orchard’s Basement 4 Atrium, TV series fans will get to put on the Oculus Rift VR headset and take part in the “unprecedented 4D immersive entertainment experience”. We hope you don’t have a fear of heights – you’ll take the 700-foot ride to the top of The Wall.

The Game of Thrones Experience: Worlds of Westeros (#GOTAsiaWOW)
When: April 2 to 7, 2016
Time: 10am to 10pm
Where: ION Orchard, Basement 4 Atrium

GOTAsiaWOW - Ascend The Wall

The experience will take you into a physical recreation of Castle Black winch elevator, and with the Oculus Rift on and a pair of headphones, you’ll be transported into Westeros. The elevator will then take you on a 700-feet journey to the top of the Wall, while other effects – such as wind and rattling – will add realism to the ride. From the top, you’ll be able to look out across all of the Seven Kingdoms and walk across to the other side for a breath-taking view of the land beyond the Wall.

Developed by HBO with experiential agency, Relevent, the experience will feature graphics generated by Framestore, the Oscar winning imaging company for Best Visual Effects for its work on the movie, Gravity.

Game Of Thrones Weapons - Various

And while you’re waiting for the VR experience, actual weapons from the series, such as Oathkeeper, Needle, Ice and the White Walker sword will be one show. And there’ll be cool photo opportunities: A replica of the Iron Throne will be available for us to sit on – it won’t be the slightly smaller (but still cool) versions we’ve seen over the past few years. You’ll also get to take a photo with Drogon – green screen style that is. So those who are afraid of a fiery death have nothing to worry about.

Original storyboards and concept art from the series will also be present, in case you prefer taking photos of things, instead of having your mug in a photo.

If you’re a StarHub customer, you’ll get priority to scale the wall, as well as for the photo opportunities. But it’s free for everybody anyway!

Game Of Thrones begins its ten-episode sixth season in Singapore the same time as the US – on HBO (StarHub TV Ch 601), Apr 25, 9am, with a same day primetime encore at 9pm. The series will also be available on HBO GO on StarHub Go and HBO On Demand.

*No, we don’t know if Jon Snow is alive. Stop asking.
