Mel’s Muses: Action Figure Roundup: Thor

By Odin’s beard! It’s less than a week to Thor’s movie debut and what better time to look at the Thor movie merchandize on our retail shelves.

We got both 6-inch and 3 ¾-inch Hasbro figures on sale here. The 6-inch ones are only of Thor and the Destroyer at S$24.90 each. Both look pretty impressive standing straight up but not ideal for any heroic poses. There are no bendable elbow or knee joints. Looking at the movie trailer, it looks like the Destroyer is much taller than the Asgardian but both are of the same height here so minus points for that.

Also on the shelves are the 3 ¾-inch action figures at S$19.90 each. The major stars of the show are all here, Thor, Odin, Loki and Frost Giant. The Chris Hemsworth likeness is almost all there but too bad there’s no Jane Foster (yet?) so no chance of comparing that likeness with my Queen Amidala figure. Nah, just kidding, I don’t own an Amidala action figure, only her daughter Leia … in her famous bikini outfit of course.

I must admit the plastic Mjolnir or Thor’s hammer does look kinda cool. Makes thunder sounds, flashing lights plus it even fires a missile! And you don’t need the power of Odin for all that, just three little AAA batteries! It just occurred to me, that with a little modification and paint job, this would make a great prop if anyone wants to cosplay as one of the Worthy from Marvel’s current Fear Itself storyline!

Now my favorite Thor figure would have to be the Marvel Universe comic version Thor at S$19.90. Wearing his present full bodysuit costume, this is a must buy for all fans of the current comic book series. Comes with well-detailed features, little Mjolnir, a stand and plenty of striking poses to play around with.
