Fan Bingbing cast in X-Men: Days of Future Past

I’m a little late to the party with this news, but I’d literally only just heard about it. It’s strange to realise you’re reading about X-Men casting news in the local papers rather than online, but better late than never, I suppose.

31-year-old actress Fan Bingbing will have a role in the next X-Men film, Days of Future Past. This was revealed by director Bryan Singer in a tweet that had the headshots of 16 castmembers, three of which had not been previously announced, and arranged in such a way as to hint the casting of at least six more leads.

Of the three newly announced castmembers, Daniel Cudmore is reprising his role as Colossus but it was not mentioned what role Twilight actor Booboo Stewart would be playing. About two hours later, Deadline Hollywood and The Hollywood Reporter both indicated that Fan Bingbing will be playing the mutant teleporter Blink, though neither site produced any sources to back up this announcement.

Nonetheless, it does seem like Bryan Singer is clearly pulling out all the stops for this project, trying to capture the lucrative but oft elusive Chinese cinema market. It remains to be seen exactly how big a role Fan will have though, especially since Singer has been known to cram as many character cameos as possible into his X-Men films.

Fan won the Golden Horse award for Best Supporting Actress in 2007 with The Matrimony and joins other lauded thespians on set including Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry and Anna Paquin, Golden Globe winners Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman and Peter Dinklage and César Award winner Omar Sy.

His teenage years spent nursing a giant man-crush on Steve Rogers, the first Captain America, Peter naturally found himself drawn to many other heroes who depicted strong, manly qualities, including the honour-bound warrior Worf, first Klingon in Starfleet, and the muscular rock hard abs of The Thing.
