Celebrate Star Wars – without having to fly to Los Angeles!

Star Wars Celebration – touted as the “ultimate Star Wars fan experience” – is back this year in Anaheim, California. Since most of us are going to be stuck in Singapore, we’re all going to have to watch the excitement trickle in from a distance (on social media, probably). But there’s good news! For those of us unable to board an Imperial Transport to the Outer Rim, Bothan spies have tapped into the feed to bring a live broadcast of the proceedings for the start of Star Wars Celebration.
Star Wars Celebration which – depending on how you count it – is now in its seventh or tenth iteration, and it’s organised by the great guys from ReedPOP, who also do NYCC and our very own Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention. And think of it as the Star Wars version of these huge comic conventions, hanging out and enjoying the nerd love. Jealous you can’t go? Me too.
This year, the event will be simulcast in 35 cinemas across 23 countries to allow more fans to be part of it. The Star Wars: The Force Awakens Celebration Global Fan Event in Singapore will take place from 11pm on Thursday, April 16. Star Wars Celebration Anaheim kicks off at 10am on April 16 in Anaheim California, which means things will really get going at 1am, Singapore time.

But what’s going to happen? Well, this year marks the start of the new range of Star Wars movies, starting with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and director JJ Abrams, together with producer Kathleen Kennedy will host a panel for the upcoming movie. Special guests will be there too – I’m guessing not Ahmed Best – and so this promises to be a night to remember. Oh, and all attendees of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Global Fan Events will be treated to exclusive collectibles, just in case you didn’t have enough reason to go.
Seating is limited, so signing up will get you a chance to win a ticket for the Singapore event. Signups open on Wednesday (Apr 8) at 12.17pm here, and results will be set on via email by April 11.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in Singapore, Dec 17.
