Starfighter dogfights return with EA’s Star Wars: Squardron
It feels like it’s been a long time ago (and a galaxy far, far away) when we last had a Star Wars game fully focussed on stepping into the cockpit of a starfighter and fighting epic dogfights, and now EA’s Star Wars: Squadron is set to bring such a game back onto our PCs and consoles. Check out the trailer above, which features cameos like Hera Syndulla and Wedge Antilles!

Star Wars: Squadron launches 2 October, 2020 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, as well as VR on the PlayStation 4 and PC, with cross-play support. Want more than the trailer? EA will show off the gameplay world premiere on June 19, 7am (Singapore time).

Set post Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi, you’ll get to control starfighters such as the X-wing, A-wing, TIE bomber and TIE fighter for 5v5 multiplayer dogfights. There’s also a single-player campaign, which covers a key campaign near the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. You’ll have to plan skirmishes with your squadron in the briefing room before taking off, and hopefully this adds a cool tactical layer on top of the usual space combat games.

You’ll also get to modify your ship, as well as adjust power across systems on the fly. Touted to be a fully self-contained game, it will allow you to ear rewards through play to unlock new components like weapons, hulls, engines, shields and cosmetic items.

Powered by EA’s Frostbite engine, it looks like it’ll build on the experience in Star Wars: Battlefront II. EA Motive developed the single-player campaign of Battlefront II, so it looks like we’re in good hands here.
