SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online comes to Singapore

Long story short: The closed beta is now… closed! But you can sign up for the open beta here.

On Jan 20, it was announced with some excitement among Gundam fans that SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online (SDGCFO – because honestly who can keep typing that out?!) was due to be launched in South-East Asia (basically Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines) and Australia by Singapore-based game operator Shanda Games. And it’s free-to-play.

If you’re a Gundam fan yourself you might have heard of it – SDGCFO is a massively-multiplayer online third-person shooter (MMOTPS – ditto) based in the Gundam universe with a slight spin. That’s right, the SD in the title stands for super-deformed, and gamers will get a chance to control their cutesy-big-headed Gundam and take on each other in various arenas. Take a look at what it’s like in the video below.

Created by Bandai Korea, at the very least you know that the game will be true to the Gundam universe (as true as SD Gundam get anyway) – Gundam from all Gundam eras are present in the game. It’s actually almost five years ago but still stands strong due to its popularity. Given the number of years it’s been around, there’s tons of detail to the game, so you might be better off taking a look at the beginner’s guider here.

I’ve not yet gone into the closed beta myself, but based on what I know, perhaps the most fun bit other than the gameplay is the fact that you get to go all crazy and gashapon your very own Gundam. With over 350 models of Gundam to get, this brings back memories of when I was trying to get that very last toy on the gashapon display. The Gundam you get are customisable too, so there’s going to be quite a lot of variety out there. Some of the variations, based on other markeets, require cash, so if you’re planning to be really hardcore about this, consider yourself warned.

Want to get into the closed beta? You’re in luck! We have closed beta keys to give away, so leave us a comment here, in Twitter or Facebook and we’ll send a beta key right over – while stocks last! The closed beta begins Feb 14 so there’s no time to waste – I’ve got my key, so see you there!
