First look: Scorsese’s The Irishman, starring De Niro, Pacino and Pesci

Legendary director Martin Scorsese has a new film in the works, and this time, it’s premiering on Netflix. Check out the trailer above!

THE IRISHMAN (2019) Ray Ramano (Bill Bufalino ) Al Pacino (Jimmy Hoffa) and Robert De Niro (Frank Sheeran)

Titled “The Irishman”, the new film stars Oscar winners Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. It’ll debut in Autumn 2019 … which is to say, sometime from September to December? I mean, it’s summer all year around these parts. It’s set to have a theatrical release first (at least in North America), obviously with an aim at scoring Oscar nominations, especially with Pesci coming out of retirement for the role.

The Irishman is an epic saga of organised crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran (De Niro), a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino), and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organised crime: Its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.

The movie is based on the true story of Sheeran, as told in the book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt.
