#WelcomeToLitchfield – the Orange Is The New Black Litchfield Experience in Singapore

What an extraordinary experience, to be invited summoned by Netflix to catch a preview of the new season of Orange is the New Black, at the Litchfield Penitentiary Cafeteria (a dramatically transformed OverEasy Orchard). In fact, it’s so extraordinary that I can only rely on social media to tell most of the story.

Despite being lodged between Starbucks and Marks and Spencer, it was surreal to see how Overeasy had been changed so dramatically to represent Litchfield, the fictitious setting of Netflix Original Series Orange is the New Black.

Upon entry, you’re given the once-over by the most apathetic of inmates, holding fort at processing (i.e. signing the NDA for the season 4 opener) and the commissary (i.e. getting your meal pass and goodie bag with orange top).

Then it’s off to the prison guards.

I’ll just leave that there.

Then it was off to take your mugshot and get an identity badge. I’m terribly unphotogenic, so I’ll just borrow some pretty people instead.

And just before you enter the cafeteria, there’s an opportunity to get your hair done, or get yourself inked. I couldn’t resist.

That’s a temporary airbrush tattoo, courtesy of Tribal Quest Singapore. I’m quite pleased with it.

ANYWAY, it was time for the Cafeteria itself. A truly intimidating experience.

I mean, just look at those monsters dishing out food.

This one was the worst of all, she threatened not to pour me any gravy.

(I’m just kidding. Glory Ngim turned out to be a big softie. :P)

So what was served?

What… is that…

Thanks to chef Bjorn Shen (of Artichoke and Bird Bird SG fame), prison food was definitely much MUCH better than it looks. What an absolute treat.

After that, the moment I’ve been waiting a whole year for – the sneak preview of Orange is the New Black Season 4. When we left the inmates last season, they had escaped through a massive hole in the Penitentiary fence and were enjoying the nearby lake. All except one, Alex (played by Laura Prepon) who’s life was on the line when she was cornered in the greenhouse by a hitman. I’m not allowed to divulge anything from the new season, of course, so watch out for my review when Season 4 hits Netflix this Friday.

This pop-up cafeteria will be around for the next two days and serves meals at lunch and dinner. Response was so good that even when extra seating was made available, it was snapped up within seconds. Still, walk-ins are available, so it probably wouldn’t hurt to drop by Liat Towers and check out Litchfield Penitentiary Cafeteria before it reverts to OverEasy this weekend.

Oh, and in case it needs to be said – you could possibly bump into the most gorgeous man… related to me.

Thanks to Netflix and Ogilvy for the kind invitation!

His teenage years spent nursing a giant man-crush on Steve Rogers, the first Captain America, Peter naturally found himself drawn to many other heroes who depicted strong, manly qualities, including the honour-bound warrior Worf, first Klingon in Starfleet, and the muscular rock hard abs of The Thing.
