Singapore-born filmmaker Sandi Tan’s Shirkers premieres worldwide on Netflix 26 Oct

Singapore-born filmmaker Sandi Tan’s award-winning movie, Shirkers, will finally debut in Singapore – and globally – on October 26, 2018. And it’s going to be on Netflix!

The movie, a Netflix Original documentary film, won the Directing Award in World Cinema Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival in Jan 2018

Shirkers (the documentary) tells the story of Sandi Tan’s original Shirkers, a Singapore-made 1992 movie by teenage friends Sandi Tan, Jasmine Ng and Sophie Siddique. It might have become a cult classic, had the 16mm footage not been stolen by their enigmatic American collaborator Georges Cardona. More than two decades after Cardona disappeared, Tan, now a novelist in L.A., returns to the country of her youth and to the memories of a man who both enabled and thwarted her dreams. Magically, too, she returns to the film itself, revived in a way she never could have imagined.

Shirkers is directed, produced, and written by Sandi Tan, and features executive producers of the original Shirkers, Jasmine Ng and Sophie Siddique, with Jessica Levin and Maya Rudolph as producers of the documentary film.

Check out the trailer above – it looks bang-out amazing, and we really can’t wait for this. Oct 26 guys. Keep that day free.
