One of the most popular announcements from last month’s San Diego Comic-Con International was the big tease that Bobbi Morse, aka Mockingbird, will be making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.! The addition of Mockingbird would make it the first time that any comic book Avenger will be appearing on the television show, though of course the script’s probably not going to reference any of that, and simply keep her as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, not unlike Victoria Hand and Maria Hill. However, despite a series of casting announcements over the following month, the identity of the actress had yet to be revealed, resulting in our own cast suggestion on who could play Mockingbird earlier.
About twelve hours ago, the exclusive reveal was finally made via The Hollywood Reporter who broke the news that Adrianne Palicki will be playing Bobbi Morse in the fifth episode of the new season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Find out what this means for the show, under the cut.

If the name Adrianne Palicki is familiar, you’re probably a fan of the show Friday Night Lights, where she played Tyra Collette for the first three seasons. Or maybe you remember her from last year’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation, where she played Lady Jaye. Maybe you know her as Holly Rocket, her character in the comedy film Women in Trouble and its sequel Elektra Luxx. For most of us, however, she’s most easily remembered as the star of the doomed Wonder Woman pilot three years ago, and the controversy that erupted when Entertainment Weekly revealed her in costume.
Not only was that ridiculous costume a slap in the face to the legacy of Wonder Woman, it also made the very photogenic Palicki actually look… plain. Nonetheless, the self-professed comic book fan took it in stride, and though the pilot was eventually not picked up, she remains “proud” of her involvement, as she revealed to The Huffington Post the following year:
“I was so grateful to get to play Wonder Woman. That was a childhood dream of mine and I’m proud of the outcome. I do wish it would have gone to series but everything happens for a reason.”

Well, it looks like she’ll get the chance to bring another superhero to life come October this year. Palicki as Bobbi Morse will make her debut in the fifth episode of the season, “with the potential to return”. Well, she’d better return. Coulson’s S.H.I.E.L.D. desperately needs Mockingbird, who in the comic books is a genius biologist with peak human athleticism and a trained spy. Mockingbird also has enhanced, almost superhuman, strength and agility, might we add, thanks to then-Avengers writer Brian Michael Bendis who clearly felt she still needed to earn her place in the superteam and gave her a combination of Captain America’s Super-Soldier Serum and Nick Fury Sr.’s Infinity Formula.
Palicki has proven herself capable of working for television and film, meaning that it won’t be too much of a stretch to hope that she shows up in a future Marvel movie, maybe even the as yet untitled Avengers 3?
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC on September 23rd.
