Workshop Wednesday: Journeyman 25 Point Tournament
After all, it’s Wednesday SOMEWHERE in the world right now, isn’t it? 😉
It’s taken me a while, but here’re some of the photos that I took this Sunday. Our Journeyman League mini-tournaments seem to be growing ever stronger, with a nice 12-man turnout during the weekend. If this continues I really need to find a way to figure out the 35 point tourney.
Most of the people weren’t used to the Steamroller format (both timed turns as well as scenario play), but I’m glad to say that after the tournament, at least they’ve gotten a taste of what Sporecon action is going to be like. We had a few turn timeouts, but better to timeout in a small practice game than a big tourney like Sporecon, I think.
Strangely enough, we’ve also got a huge switch in meta again. From 4 Cygnar players during the previous tourney, to 4 Everblight and 3 Skorne players this time round. We also had a huge range of types of armies, from the infantry machine (iirc Elliot’s Cryx only featured one Jack; everything else was troops), to Wil’s 4 model army.
I also saw that some people were playing to the scenario of the games, rather than just caster kill. Shermin over here even did a feint towards Ethan’s caster Kraye only to end up smooshing an objective and scoring a scenario point. In the end, Derek also won another regional championship (also due to scenario points tie-breaker) Considering the tiebreakers consist of scenario points, I think weaning people away from just caster kills is a good thing. 🙂
We’ve also got lots of good painted models coming in, with Wil continuing to paint up a storm; this time with his hentai tentacle monster Throne of Everblight, and even though he’s down one set of games, he’s still awfully close to Alvin’s score.
Derek has also completed another Warlock (this time my favourite Skorne Beatstick, Xerxis), while Ethan has begun finishing up his Cygnar models, starting with a charger. We’re heading to the final stretch of the Journeyman ‘league’, and judging by the points, it’s gonna be a close one.
