Mel’s Muses: Tabletop Roundup. Darren Tan Solo Art Exhibition, Games Workshop and Magic: The Gathering

The weekend’s right round the corner and if you are an avid tabletop gamer, here are some pretty cool things you can look forward to.

If you are into any of the Star Wars games by Fantasy Flight Games or even their new Legends of the Five Rings game, you might be familiar with local artist Darren Tan’s work. His eye-catching art has been featured in games such as Star Wars Destiny as well as boxed art on Star Wars X-Wing and Armada. Now you can view a selection of his impressive Star Wars art at an exclusive free exhibition at Ink Ink Art Gallery, #02-85 Bras Basah Complex. It’s open daily from 12.30pm till 7pm and until 19 January.

It’s a small and intimate exhibition featuring some of Darren’s amazing works. Portraits of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Boba Fett adorn one wall while the opposite wall showcases some fantastic space battles.

And if you are a geek art collector, you won’t want to miss the chance to own some really impressive Star Wars art by Darren. Yup, selected prints are on sale and you won’t want to miss those.

Also, happening this weekend is the pre-release of Magic: The Gathering’s latest expansion Rivals of Ixalan. Local game stores will be having pre-release sessions on Saturday and Sunday so be sure to drop if you want to be the first to get your hands on some new cards.

For fans of the miniature games Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar, this weekend sees the release of a whole new buncha miniatures dedicated to the Dark Gods. Followers (and players) of Nurgle will welcome the Great Unclean One, Horticulous Slimux and of cos, a new deadly Chaos Battletome Maggotkin of Nurgle.

Yikes, I was at an Age of Sigmar tournament last week and I saw first-hand how disgustingly devastating the forces of Nurgle can be. A player had at least 15 Putrid Blightkings and a Morbidex Twiceborn at his command and the guy pretty much wiped the table with them. If I haven’t already spent a small fortune on my Stormcast Eternal army, a Chaos Nurgle army would have been my other choice.

There’s also a new Warhammer 40K Codex for Chaos Daemons packed with unique abilities for each Chaos God, from Warlord Traits to psychic powers, breakdowns of different Chaos armies and of cos, pages of gorgeous art.

Be sure to check out your local game stores for all these new releases.
