BREAKING: STGCC 2015 brings superstar artist Adam Hughes to Singapore

The Singapore Toy, Game and Comics Convention (STGCC) is back for yet another year! The annual event is known for bringing the biggest names in the comics industry to our shores and the region, often for the first time, and this year is no different. Today they announced the first wave of guests, headlined by superstar artist Adam Hughes.

Though there’s no aspect of the comic book industry Hughes has delved into, he is perhaps best known today for his amazing and dynamic cover art, especially of superheroines. His stylised covers for Wonder Woman and Catwoman remain some of his most iconic and memorable work. In fact 2015 marks his 30th year in comics, a career that has seen him do work for the biggest companies in the industry including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and IDW.

He’s also an 2003 Eisner Award winner for Best Cover Artist for his Wonder Woman run and just looking at the way he encapsulates Diana’s strength, grace and skill in a single picture, it’s hard to deny that he absolutely deserves all the accolades he’s received over the years. In fact, his self-defined “naturalistic” style is undoubtedly what led his fans to make Cover Run: The DC Comics Art of Adam Hughes a New York Times best seller.

Hughes is no stranger to the convention circuit and his STGCC visit falls right in between his appearances at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic Con. This will be his first trip to Singapore and to Asia, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Other STGCC 2015 guests announced in this first wave include:

1) Camilla D’Errico, a manga/anime inspired creator who’s done it all in the comic book industry, from mainstream work with Dark Horse Comics to her self-published hit Tanpopo. Camilla is also the first female international artist STGCC has ever invited, which is quite a big deal. She last attended STGCC way back in 2009, when the event was in its sophomore year!

2) Sadamoto Yoshiyuki is the co-founder of the famous Gainax anime studio, which is most well-known for the seminal anime epic Neon Genesis Evangelion. The chara-designer, mangaka and animation director is also known for the .hack series of games and anime, and full-length movies like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children.

3) Shigeto Koyama, a protege of Yoshiyuki-san, did animation and design work on the Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone and the Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance films. Koyama-san has also been involved in both the Eureka Seven and EUREKA SEVEN AO series, as well as other series such as Gurren Lagann, Moribito – Guardian of the Spirit, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, HEROMAN and Star Driver. Most recently, he’s credited for being the creative genius behind the design of Big Hero 6s breakout star Baymax.

His teenage years spent nursing a giant man-crush on Steve Rogers, the first Captain America, Peter naturally found himself drawn to many other heroes who depicted strong, manly qualities, including the honour-bound warrior Worf, first Klingon in Starfleet, and the muscular rock hard abs of The Thing.
