Star Wars Day 2016 strikes Singapore on Labour Day weekend

The annual May the Fourth festivities are here again – it’s Star Wars Day, and this year it returns to our galaxy: Except we’re not celebrating on May 4th.

With the Labour Day long-weekend coming up, Star Wars Day this year will be held on Apr 30 and May 1. That also makes it a week ahead of the Free Comic Book Day weekend, making the months of April and May full of non-stop weekend geekery (we’re barely recovering from #TeamCap last week). It will take place at the Singapore Sports Hub’s OCBC Square, venue sponsor Kallang Wave Mall will also be part of the festivities – and entry is free!

Spread over two days, this year’s Star Wars Day will feature a panel session with artists from Lucasfilm Singapore who worked on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Our very own 501st Legion Singapore Garrison will be there to guard the displays (and for photos), while the Band of Doodlers  and fan art will also be on show. Additionally, there’s model kit painting, stage games, a vast array of toys on display (the largest ever, according to the organisers) – and our good friends from Fightsaber will be making an appearance as well as teaching kids how to be a lightsaber master.

And this isn’t just all about the new trilogy – long-time fans can get their nostalgia on with stuff from the original trilogy (and also buy Star Wars merchandise on sale).

Organised by fans and staffed by volunteers, this is Singapore’s third installment of Star Wars Day. Venue sponsor Kallang Wave Mall has lined up special promotions for attendees as well, with shoppers able to redeem an express pass for the photo booth with minimum spending of S$60 (max three same-day receipts) at the mall (S$100 with FairPrice Xtra receipts). In addition, every S$120 spent (S$180 with FairPrice Xtra receipts) allows shoppers to redeem an exclusive BB-8 umbrella.
