The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye goes on show

It was our pick for the best comic of 2015, and just two months into 2016, Sonny Liew’s The Art Of Charlie Chan Hock Chye is garnering rave reviews around the world with the launch of the International Edition, published by Pantheon Books.

To celebrate the international launch, Charlie Chan’s own art will go on show at the Mulan Gallery – you’ll get to see the original artwork from the graphic novel all curated by Sonny Liew himself. Held from Mar 4 to 24, limited signed copies of the International Edition of the book will also be on sale.
The Art Of Charlie Chan Hock Chye
Venue : Mulan Gallery
36 Armenian Street
#01-07 Singapore 179934
Exhibition Period : Mar 4 – 24, 2016
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 11.30am – 6.30pm. Closed on Mondays, Sundays and Public Holidays
Looking at the art up close is a treat – you’ll get to see just how much work has been done to put the book together, from drafts to inked pages, liquid-paper corrections included. Right at the back of the gallery are the oil paintings – of Charlie Chan and his mother, as well as two paintings of Lee Kuan Yew – both set at different stages of his life, one framed ornately, the other, austere. Perfectly done, I must say.
And if you wish, you can even buy the original pieces of art for S$200 to S$950. However, the canvas paintings of Lee Kuan Yew are not for sale.
