Back to school: New The Teenage Textbook TV series comes in April 2021

Some of us might have caught the 1998 Singaporean classic The Teenage Textbook Movie again when it hit Netflix earlier this month. (Or for some, for the first time!) If you’re hungry for more, school is back in session in April 2021 with a brand new adaptation for TV.

Based on the book by Adrian Tan, the series will come to Channel 5 and meWatch next year, according to a report by Lianhe Zaobao. Chen Yi Xin, the daughter of Xiang Yun and Edmund Chen, is set to star as Sissy.

Joining her as cast mates are Gavin Teo, Tay Ping Hui and Darren Lim, as well as DJ Chris Mak.

According to Zaobao’s interview, this adaptation updates the book to a more contemporary setting, including the use of social media. They’ve also moved the show from a JC to a Polytechnic.

If this goes well, maybe they’ll adapt The Teenage Workbook too! Meanwhile, author Adrian Tan might be working on a third book
