Find out what happens in The Force Awaken’s Battle of Jakku before everyone else

Little is known about the desert planet featured in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailers, other than its name – Jakku – and that something happened to get a Imperial Star Destroyer to crash land on it. Now one thing is clear: A “pivotal battle” took place on it before the events of TFA. And now, you can get the chance to find out what ahead of the rest of the world.

Even better: It looks like the fate of everyone’s favourite bounty hunter, Boba “no disintegrations” Fett will be revealed: Take a look at this screenshot below, featuring Mr Fett with a now famous backdrop, all cleaned up from that sarlacc pit.

How? It’s simple – all you have to do is to pre-order EA’s upcoming Star Wars game, Star Wars Battlefront, to get free access to the Battle Of Jakku DLC on Dec 1 – a whole week ahead of the the rest of the world, who will get free access on Dec 8.

Boba Fett is not the only thing for fans to figure out: The Battle of Jakku takes place after the events of Return Of The Jedi, where the New Republic confronts Imperial holdouts in the planet on the Outer Rim. If you remember, based on what fans saw at Star Wars Celebration, it looks like the forces of good and evil are now the Resistance and the First Order – which means … WHAT? Will all the forces start to splinter after Episode VI? At least the New Republic from the old Expanded Universe exists, kinda.

With all those questions, it looks like Star Wars Battlefront is the best way to get into the mood for The Force Awakens. Battlefront will also bring gamers to locales we all love, from Endor, Hoth and Tatooine. The also a visit to Sullust – the home planet of everybody’s favourite Sullustan, Nien Nunb!

You’ll also get to fire blasters, ride speeder bikes, command AT-ATs (don’t get tripped up) and pilot X-Wings (yay!), TIE fighters … And the Millennium Falcon. And let’s not forget playing as Boba Fett himself … or wielding a lightsaber as Dart Vader.

While it’s not clear how all these plot points will connect – each mission would probably a different shorter story from the viewpoint of either side, probably with some taking place within the earlier movies. Still, with some great Star Wars storytelling and intense graphics powered by the Frostbite game engine – the same engine behind the other games such as Battlefield Hardline  (which I shall review someday!), this is very promising. The Battlefield series has generally been well received – with expansive set pieces and wonderful explosions – so pairing it with the Star Wars universe should be great, especially with Lucasfilm staring at developers DICE to treat the universe well.

And really, who can forget this amazing teaser trailer from E3 two years ago …

Star Wars Battlefront will be released Nov 17, in Asia. Pre-ordering will cost S$69.90 for the Standard Edition. The Deluxe Edition costs S$89.90, and comes with instant access to 4 in-game items:
