Conventions Calendar Check – Aug to Dec 2022

With travel restrictions further easing throughout Asia, here’s a list of upcoming pop-culture conventions happening around the region for you to look to planning your saved up free time towards. Do note this list is not exhaustive and are only suggestions from us – events are paid entry unless otherwise stated.

Nijigen Expo – August 19th to 21st (Malaysia)
Sort of a newcomer to the event circuit, Nijigen Expo is hoping to making an impact in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, including inviting a slew of well-known regional cosplayers such as Ely Cosplay from Taiwan, Thames Malerose from Thailand and Singapore’s 小鱼Kiko as well as regional vtubers and much more!

AniManGaki – August 27th & 28th (Malaysia)
Potentially the 2nd biggest ACG event in Malaysia (the biggest one is further down this list), AMG has returned and is planning to take your monies by storm. They’ve invited Emirichu (of Youtube fame) as well as Shirahama Kamome (of Witch Hat Atelier fame) and have a load of activities and panels for attendees to get embroiled in.

The Odex Film Festival x Anime Matsuri – September 3rd & 4th (Singapore)
Featuring a weekend of movies, cosplay, creators, stage performances, fan activities and more! Catch One Piece Film: Red, Shin UItraman, Isekai Quartet The Movie: Another World & The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie showing at the event. Guest cosplayers at the event include Miu from Vietnam as well as Preston Les & Yingtze from Malaysia.

Crunchyroll Expo Aus – September 17th & 18th (Australia)
Crunchyroll Expo lands in Australia for the first time! Coming to Melbourne, the event brings the best of anime content to the region along with merchandise & toys, lots of them!

Cosplay Mania – October 1st & 2nd (Philippines)
Pretty much the most anticipated cosplay event in the Philippines in the later half of the year, Cosplay Mania is definitely going to be a great event to attend if you can. With a slate of cosplay guests including Onnies and Thames Malerose from Thailand as well as Yosuke Sora from Singapore along with the fantastically high-level local cosplayers, you’ll be sure to enjoy yourself there.

Indonesia Comic Con – October 1st & 2nd (Indonesia)
Got those superhero or jedi vibes? Then you’d definitely want to add Indonesia Comic Con to your list, with comics, toys, movies, games and cosplays galore with an uniquely regional flavour you don’t want to miss.

PAX Australia – October 7th to 9th (Australia)
PAX is back again in Melbourne for PAX Australia! Held across three full days and all under one roof, PAX offers the community the opportunity to meet with old friends, make new ones, interact with game developers, publishers and brands, and get hands-on with everything they love about gaming. SEGA, SQUARE ENIX® (FINAL FANTASY® XIV Online), HoYoverse, Twitch, Devolver Digital and Riot Games will be all over PAX Aus, showing off new games, doing things on stage, and bringing along a bunch of other surprises.

Cosfest 2022: THE DREAMS OF A MILLION STARS – October 15th & 16th (Singapore)
An annual mainstay of the Singapore cosplay calendar – Cosfest is back in 2022 at its iconic Downtown East location.

Gamescom Asia – October 19th to 23rd (Singapore)
Comprising of both an online and offline segment, Gamescom Asia is looking to set its mark in Asia this year. Pretty much taking over the space left by Gamestart Asia, we’re really looking forward to what the public fan zone will offer to fans who have been eagerly waiting for this major gaming-centric event since its official announcement pre-pandemic. Note: Public zone days are listed as October 21st & 22nd.

Anime Festival Asia – November 25th to 27th (Singapore)
It’s finally back! The largest anime-centric event in Singapore is finally able to return and we’re all excited for it. There’s nothing much else to say, but if you’re a real anime, gaming & cosplay fan – I hope you’re already set aside your time to attend AFA this year.

Singapore Comic Con – December 10th to 11th (Singapore)
If you prefer more Western-styled pop-culture content, then SGCC is definitely the event you want to be at. Once again at the iconic Marina Bay Sands, we’re excited for two full days of full-on fun and magic again this year.

Comic Fiesta 2022 – December 17th to 18th (Malaysia)
Malaysia’s leading Animation, Comics and Games convention has also returned! Comic Fiesta will once again be happening at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre at the end of year so I hope you’re ready!
