Asia GAME Festival looks to carve a spot in Singapore’s pop culture and gaming circuit

Changes are afoot for Singapore in the gaming and pop culture realm. The Asia GAME Festival (AGF) – slated for 9th-10th June 2018, aims to bring together literally everything that gamers, cosplay fans and anime enthusiasts would be excited about. There’s quite a bit going on, so here’s a quick breakdown.

Esports/Gaming Events

The AGF will be hosting the inaugural CPL Championship-PUBG – featuring PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) – with players from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines battling it out to become the first PUBG champion in the region.

The main Esports Championships will be streamed ‘live’ worldwide via media partners Twitch and Yahoo! and audiences will also be treated to the presence of celebrity gaming influencers Treephob “Xyclopz’ Tiangtrong (Thailand) and Tiffani “Babyoling” Lim (Malaysia) who will be shoutcasting for the matches as well as interacting with the fans.

You will also be able to catch the finals of the Hyperplay Singapore National Qualifier, featuring League of Legends. The Singapore National Qualifier will determine who represents Singapore in Hyperplay, the first ASEAN League of Legends competition and music festival showcasing four electrify concerts happening in August 2018.

To add some additional clout to the event, the AFG will also be the new home of the Campus Game Fest, an annual event set up by SCOGA and ITE and was formerly held at ITE College Central, which brings together local gaming communities in the spirit of competitive gameplay. Look forward to exciting competitions in games such as Dragonball FighterZ, Super Smash Bros, Pokémon and Hearthstone.

Cosplay Activities

Of course in order to tap on the ever-growing cosplay and anime fan community, the AGF will be bringing in a number of well-known international cosplayers, not just for a meet-and-greet, but also take part in friendly gaming bouts with fans. Fans can look forward to seeing the ever-popular Aza Miyuko (Korea), Yuegene Fay & Onnies (Thailand) as well as Numacchi (Japan) making his first overseas appearance.

There’ll also be a cosplay competition so if you’re keen, look out for the registration announcement on their website. If not, bring your cameras along and get some good snaps with our local cosplayer community!

P.S If you’ve heard about the pop-up Tsundere Café where maids are expected to give you some ‘tough love’, look out for their second pop-up event at AGF – details here (https://www.facebook.com/events/160585511298106/)

Anime Concerts

These days, it’s not uncommon to have epic concerts as part of an event line-up. The AGF x aniSONIC concert is slated to feature two consecutive nights of J Pop performances with a line-up that includes Anisong rock band BACK-ON, bless4, upcoming singer ASAKA, and Utaite singer Underbar as well as DJ Caesar and potentially more.

Tickets for Asia Game Fest 2018 are now available on their website http://www.asiagamefest.com starting from $15 for a standard 1 day pass so if you’re keen, be sure to mark your calendars!
