Ubisoft Singapore’s next big project: Skull And Bones
Ubisoft Singapore has been pretty secretive about what it’s been up to since the closure of Ghost Recon Phantoms in 2016, but now it’s been revealed: Online naval piracy game, Skull And Bones. The game is set for release in Fall 2018, for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PCs.
Development is led by Ubisoft Singapore, with support from Blue Byte and Ubisoft Chengdu. In the game, players will create their own pirate captains and sail through the Indian Ocean in search of loot, whether on your own or as part of a gang (guild?). For Skull And Bones, a wind system has been introduced to give gamers tactical opportunities to navigate more quickly, shoot further, hit harder, escape deadly blows, and position themselves to decimate their opponents. Gamers will also be able to build their own fleet of ships, which can specialise in different battle conditions using the game’s extensive customisation options. And it looks like there’ll be monsters.
This just makes perfect sense. After all, Ubisoft Singapore are the same guys behind the naval combat in Assassin’s Creed III, and now they get to bring their expertise to a full-fledged game. With the team also having worked on multiplayer for Ghost Recon Phantoms, it looks like it might be smooth sailing as we await the launch of Skull And Bones.
But even as we wait, Ubisoft Singapore has revealed some tantalising looks at the gameplay. And it looks amazing:
And here’s everything you need to know about Skull and Bones:
“Skull And Bones is the game that our team has dreamed of building ever since we first set sail singing along to sea shanties and we are excited to finally share our vision here at E3,” said creative director Justin Farren. “Thanks to our systemic living world, our gameplay innovations, a strong fantasy and the team’s commitment to support the game in the long term, we believe that Skull And Bones will bring players a unique experience allowing them to live the intriguing and thrilling life of pirates.”
With Sea of Thieves also coming out soon, this is a good time to be a bloodthirsty pirate. We’ve come a long, long way since Uncharted Waters. And no, you fight like a cow.
Skull And Bones will be released in fall of 2018 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
