PlayStation 4 sales cross 60.4 million units worldwide

More than 60.4 million units of Sony’s PlayStation 4 have been sold worldwide as of June 11, 2017, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced today. In a press release on Tuesday (June 13), Sony also said that more than 487.8 million copies of games – physical and digital – have been sold as of June 11 too. That’s an average of 8 games per console, but if you’re anything like me – that’s almost 8 unfinished games per console.

And as of March 2017, PlayStation also has more than 70 million monthly active users worldwide – which means people are sharing their PlayStation 4. (Or accounts for multiple regions?) The PlayStation Plus service has 26.4 million subscribers also as of end March 2017 – and if the number hasn’t changed, that’s close to 44% of the user base paying for a subscription.

And finally, active PS4 users spend more than 600 million hours per week on the platform as of March 2017 … which is about 10 hours a week. Not too shabby?

“THE BEST PLACE TO PLAY”

“We are very grateful for our fans and partners around the globe who have continued to support PS4,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “The PS4 platform is in its prime, with the industry’s best lineup of exclusive and partner titles slated to release this year, taking full advantage of the power of the PS4 system.”

“We are committed to further expanding our overall PS4 ecosystem, by broadening the PlayStation VR content portfolio, as well as enriching our network services along with our ground-breaking software lineup,” he added. “We remain steadfast in bringing the best entertainment experience to users worldwide and making PS4 the best place to play.”

With new games coming this year, such as Gundam Versus, Dragon Quest XI, Gran Turismo Sport, Everybody’s Golf, ABZU and Firewatch – the growth of the PS4 isn’t likely to stop soon. And did you see the E3 stuff!?
