Sonic the Hedgehog creator Yuji Naka and Sonic character designer Naoto Oshima are teaming up again to create Balan Wonderworld, a 3D platformer. The game will be the first from the newly established Balan Company.

The family-friendly platformer will bring you into a “whimsical and bizarre land” via a mysterious theatre. You will take on the role of Leo and Emma. The duo, led by an enigmatic maestro named Balan, must navigate through Wonderworld to “restore happiness and balance the hearts and minds of all they encounter here”.

The game will feature more than 80 costumes for Leo and Emma as they traverse the multiple unique environments in Wonderworld. On top of changing their appearance, these costumes will grant them a wide array of powers to overcome the obstacles in their way.

Say Square Enix: “The possibilities are endless as you bash your enemies, walk in the air, freeze time and manipulate all kinds of objects with the costumes you collect!”
Balan Wonderworld will mark the first collaboration between Naka and Ohshima in 20 years. So this sounds like it’ll be pretty exciting. Looking at the trailer there’s some Kingdom Hearts vibes, and with the pedigree in this team we might be in for something special.

Balan Wonderworld will be available for the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam) in Spring 2021. For more information, you can visit the official website.
