SOUND Comics Anthology calls for submissions!

Comics creators in the region, assemble! SOUND: A Comics Anthology has opened calls for submissions for stories inspired by Southeast Asia.

The parameters are pretty broad – original fiction of any genre, 10-20 pages, black and white and written in the English language. The theme? Sound, of course!

Creators can work alone or as a team. That said, the creators must also be:

  • living in Southeast Asia
  • of Asian descent
  • Aged 18 and above upon submission

The deadline is 31 July 2019. Head over to the SOUND website for more rules and regulations. And, if you pardon the pun, that sounds simple enough.

The guest editors for SOUND are veteran comic creators from the region – Budjette Tan and Charis Loke.

Budjette Tan created the supernatural crime komiks title TRESE with Kajo Baldisimo – it’s currently being adapted into an anime series for Netflix. Charis Loke is an illustrator and arts educator who is also Comics and Illustrations Editor for New Naratif as well as a committee member of Arts-ED, where she plans community arts and culture projects.

SOUND: A Comics Anthology is brought to you by Difference Engine, an exciting new independent comics publisher based here in Singapore. Dedicated to publishing both new and experienced creators, they hope to contribute to the growing Southeast Asian comics community.

Difference Engine is planning to publish SOUND in 2020, along with three other comics titles that are currently in the works. We’ll reveal more about these projects later this week.

Peter Lin

His teenage years spent nursing a giant man-crush on Steve Rogers, the first Captain America, Peter naturally found himself drawn to many other heroes who depicted strong, manly qualities, including the honour-bound warrior Worf, first Klingon in Starfleet, and the muscular rock hard abs of The Thing.
