May 7th is going to be an important date in Singapore’s history. No, we’re not talking about the General Election (enough people are talking about that already), but Free Comic Book Day!
And because this is Singapore, the word ‘free’ should fire of certain key signals in your brain. So where can you guys get you free shot of comic book geekery this coming Saturday? Read on…
The first participant in Singapore’s Free Comic Book Day is GnB Comics. They’ve got quite a few comics to give away, but the ones that are standing out for me include the Spidey one (with Humberto Ramos) as well as a Last Airbender and Dark Crystal comic (for all you nostalgic geeks out there). Other comics include Judge Dredd, and the award winning Mouse Guard.
Speaking of Judge Dredd, Gary Erskine (artist of Judge Dredd, the Kate and William wedding comic, and like a bazillion others) will be at GnB as well, with a signing and sketching session this Saturday from 1-4pm. The festivities itself will be from 1pm to 5pm.

But this year the large book stores are also homing in on the action. Kinokuniya is also giving away a set of comics to members (I’m guessing while stocks last) at the Kinokuniya Main Store from 10am to 12noon. Not only that, but if you wanna you can also meet the 501st from 4pm to 6pm (Don’t ask us why they’re not at the same time though, we’re at a loss ourselves).

Lastly, we’ve got Harris’ Planerds store, which will be opening on Free Comic Book Day itself! We’re not sure if there’re going to be any free comics, but there will be artist appearances from 1.30 pm, as well as a 20% discount if you come and cosplay!
