DC FanDome starts August 23rd in Singapore

The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t been a great time for a lot of us around the world, but geeks are about to get not one, but two major virtual conventions this year – Comic-Con@Home and DC FanDome.

Last week, San Diego Comic-Con announced Comic-Con@Home, which will take place from July 22 to July 26 this year, the original dates for SDCC 2020! Best of all, it’s FREE. I can’t believe I get to attend SDCC again, exactly a decade since my first one!

But what’s even more impressive is that Warner Bros. have decided to do their own 24-hour virtual event as well, and IT. IS. MASSIVE. DC FanDome was announced earlier this week and promises to be quite the WB flex. Starting on August 23rd at 1am, Singapore time, the event promises to have something for everyone in the Multiverse, bringing together film, TV, games and comics (of course!).

Here are just a few of the teasers we’ve been blessed with so far:

Starting with Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Director Zack Snyder will be at DC FanDome and of course, he’s going to be bringing the best parts of his long-awaited vision of Justice League, coming to HBO Max in 2021.

Think about it, this clip of Gal Gadot’s Diana seeing the image of Darkseid, with the haunting voice of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor in the background is only the FIRST SNEAK PEEK. I can’t wait to see what he’ll be bringing in August.

Finally, the Rock has come back…

The most electrifying man in all of Hollywood, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has also announced that he’ll be attending DC FanDome. He is, of course, playing the titular character in the upcoming 2021 Black Adam movie.

We’ll get to experience rest of the upcoming slate DC movies

It shouldn’t need to be spelled out, but of course we’ll be getting more sneak peeks at Wonder Woman 1984 which has already been postponed twice because of the pandemic and is now scheduled for October this year.

We’ll also have James Gunn and the cast of The Suicide Squad present, and the rumour is that we’ll finally see footage of The Batman. But then there’s also this interesting teaser:

Yes, snuck into the list of DC FanDome teasers, it’s the movie poster from the 1989 Batman movie! What could this mean?

I guess it means there’s something for everyone!

It’s mindboggling how one is going to experience everything in just 24 hours, but I guess that’s what a real convention experience feels like!

The main Hall of Heroes will be the location of all the major announcements and features, so expect to spend most of your time there. Depending on your interests, there’ll be many opportunities to explore each of the five satellite zones:

There’s the WatchVerse, which functions as the venue for all the “lesser” announcements that didn’t make it to the Hall of Heroes. The KidsVerse is hopefully self-explanatory. The FunVerse allows you to read comics, enjoy giveaways and of course, buy merch!

InsiderVerse would be where you have your chance to “meet” the legend himself, Jim Lee!

Other big names in this zone include President of DC Films Walter Hamada and DC TV producer Greg Berlanti. They’ll take you on an insider tour (hence the zone’s name!) of every aspect of the DC experience, including games, theme parks and more!

But perhaps the coolest zone…

… is the YouVerse. That’s right, since this is a global experience, it’s only right that it helps showcase all kinds of fan expressions, from fan art to cosplay to just showing off your DC collection.

Check out the submission requirements at Create.DCFanDome.com. What better way to enjoy a convention than by sharing your fandom with one another?

No major teasers from the Games and TV departments

But they’re definitely on the way. After all, there’s two months to go and if we’re already getting so many updates in just the first three days… imagine how much more we could be in for.

Set your alarms for August 23rd, 1 a.m.

Peter Lin

His teenage years spent nursing a giant man-crush on Steve Rogers, the first Captain America, Peter naturally found himself drawn to many other heroes who depicted strong, manly qualities, including the honour-bound warrior Worf, first Klingon in Starfleet, and the muscular rock hard abs of The Thing.
